Elaina Brown, who is better known in the music community as Lushus Brown, is a San Francisco native who has always been influenced by music. Her father's career in the U.S Navy took the her family to many destinations. Her mother's European roots exposed Elaina to Spanish culture. These influences brought diverse sounds to her ears, including flamenco, jazz, R&B, funk, soul and disco.
Lushus established roots in Houston in 1992, which solidified her presence within the city's music scene and club culture. Since turning professional in 2001, she has played at some of Houston's hottest venues, including Bambu Lounge, The Social, Seven Lounge, Belvedere, and M Bar. Lushus has also earned some of Houston's most prestigious musical accolades. In 2003, she was named the Critic's Choice for Best Lounge DJ in Houston and in 2004 she received a nomination in the same category for the 2004 Houston Press Music Awards.
In late 2000, Elaina met Seth Jones, a highly sought after Houston DJ who is well known for his soulful, deep house. Seth is completely cerebral about his music, says Lushus. The mixture of soulful lyrics and funky beats were completely euphoric to me. It was the combination of these compelling forces that helped her to find her distinctive style.
People close to Elaina know she is always focused when she plays and always working to perfect her sound. The tracks she plays have a warm, upbeat feel, with sultry vocals and solid bass lines. These funky and upbeat mixes have become her signature style and its for this reason why she is one of the most highly demanded DJs in Houston.
Her recent addition to the DJ roster represented by Injoy Presents, a West Coast based Production Company who seek only the elite of house music talent, confirms her promising future within the electronic music industry. Her incessant practice and continuous pursuit of knowledge is why she has and will continue to gain recognition on both a local, national and international level.
